What age does my child need to be?
The earliest intervention possible is ideal. It is often recommended that expectant mothers receive CST during their pregnancy for many benefits to mother and child. Infants may be treated right after birth and beyond. This therapy is excellent for all ages. CranioSacral therapy is very effective for adults as well and can help into advanced age.
Pediatric Craniosacral Therapy
Since Craniosacral Therapy uses such a light touch, it is perfect for newborns and infants to receive work. Don't worry.....your little one doesn't have to sit still to receive the benefits of this work. Pediatric Craniosacral Therapy can be especially effective in treating the following in children (and adults too!):
If your child is suffering from any of these symptoms, Craniosacral Therapy can be a useful tool to eliminate frustrations and bring some joy back to you and your child's life!
How often will my child need care and for how long?
This will vary depending on the child and what healing is needed. Some issues are resolved within 1 or 2 sessions because infants and children respond very well and very quickly to CranioSacral therapy. Initially, it is often best to have their sessions about a week apart. The therapist prefers to have at least 1 hour with you and your child for the first session and we offer a large discount for that hour. Allow an additional 30 minutes for free consultation at your first visit. After that, many children do well with 30 minutes sessions, while others need more. Your therapist will have a better idea after the first session and can make recommendations at that time. For more serious issues, such as Autism, Downs, and severe impairments, your child may need weekly sessions for quite some time.
Craniosacral Therapy is a light touch, non-invasive treatment
for people of all ages. Craniosacral Therapy or CST works with
your parasympathetic nervous system (the rest and digest part of your nervous system) and your connective tissue to create a deep sense of ease, health and vitality in the body.
The Craniosacral System is compromised of the brain, spinal cord and entire nervous system, the protective layers around the brain and spinal cord and the cerebrospinal fluid. This cerebrospinal fluid acts not only as a cushion for the brain and spinal cord but new research is showing that it is very similar to the lymphatic system for the brain and spinal cord. Healthy cerebrospinal fluid is essential for a healthy nervous system.
Our Craniosacral Therapists are Upledger Certified assuring you complete confidence in their training, understanding and execution of the techniques.
What can I expect after the session?
Most sessions end with your child feeling peaceful, balanced and lighter. The healing work begun in each session can continue to process for 24-48 hours, so you may notice changes in your child during that time. This may show up as high energy, tiredness, mild behavior issues, hunger, lack of appetite, and so on. While rare, if any of these processing symptoms are extreme, please contact your therapist, who may have advice or need to see your child again to help them re-gain balance.
Are there any situations that my child should not receive Pediatric Craniosacral Therapy?
There are virtually no contraindications for receiving CranioSacral Therapy. It is safe, effective, natural and non-invasive. Sometimes profound results are achieved in 1 session, but more regular therapy is often needed to add and strengthen benefits.
What is a child's session like?
The therapist will first help your child feel comfortable and at ease with her and the surroundings. She may have toys or activities to help them relax. It often helps if you, their caregiver, hold them and bring along a favorite item like a stuffed animal, toy, or blanket.
Your child stays dressed and may be lying down, sitting, in your arms, or on the floor. The therapists hands, using extremely light touch, might be placed almost anywhere on your child’s body, but are most often on the torso and head. Signals from your child’s body and brain lead the therapist as to where healing and tension release are needed.
Sometimes the releases may feel weird or uncomfortable, causing crying or other behavior, but most often your child will be much calmer than usual experiencing feelings of warmth and well-being. The therapist may include some treatment of both you and your child together, honoring the bond between you.
Each session may be different as healing may come in steps and your child’s body may need different help at different times. The therapist prefers to have at least 1 hour with you and your child for the first session. Allow an additional 30 minutes for consultation at your first visit
